The Human Body

The human body has 206 bones on average in an adult. Most people will know the more obvious ones such as
in the leg;
Femur
Patella
Tibia
Fibia

And in the arm
Humerus
Radius
Ulna

Other common bones are the clavicle, scapula, mandible, sternum and coccyx.
What most people don’t realise, myself included that a lot of the bones are in the hands and feet, 54 and 52 respectively. I knew that there were carpal bones in my wrist and metacarpals in my hands along with tarsal bones in my ankles and metatarsals in my feet. I think everyone should of heard of metatarsals these days given the volume of exposure they get from footballers injuries. What I didn’t know is the names for the bones that make up the carpals and tarsals which I’ll look at in my next post.
